NERD Begins Issuance of Official Certificates After Institutional Credential Verification
NERD Begins Issuance of Official Certificates After Institutional Credential Verification Graduates whose institutions have submitted and approved their academic credentials can now check their credential compliance status through the NERD system. The Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) is strengthening Nigeria’s digital credential verification process by linking students’ academic records to a national system for the management and verification of educational credentials. Under the National Credential Verification Service (NCVS), students can have their academic records processed after their institutions have submitted the required credentials, including transcripts and statements of result . Where the institution has successfully submitted and approved the relevant academic records and the student satisfies the applicable compliance requirements, the record can progress through the NERD credential process. What this means for graduates Graduates who have been waiting for their academic credentials to be captured and verified on the national system can now check their NCVS/NCN compliance status through the NERD portal. This development is particularly important for graduates who require verified academic credentials for purposes such as: Employment and recruitment Further education Professional registration International applications Credential verification Other official academic or professional requirements NERD states that its National Credential Verification Service is designed to support the enrolment and verification of credentials such as results, certificates and transcripts , providing a national framework for credential verification. Institution approval remains important Students should understand that the process is not simply a matter of uploading a document personally. Institutional participation and validation are central to the system. If a university, polytechnic or college has submitted and approved the student's relevant academic record, the student's compliance status can subsequently be processed through the NERD system. The NERD programme was established as a national platform for the preservation, validation and verification of Nigerian education records and credentials, with the stated objective of improving the integrity and accessibility of academic records. How to check Students and graduates can visit the NCVS/NCN Compliance by Student page: Check NCVS/NCN Compliance Status They should follow the instructions on the portal and confirm whether their institution's submitted academic record has been captured and approved. Important: Students whose institutions have not yet submitted or approved their records may not see the same compliance status. In such cases, they may need to contact their institution's appropriate academic records/registry office. A new step toward verifiable Nigerian academic records The development forms part of Nigeria's broader move toward a centralized digital education-record infrastructure. The NERD programme identifies credential verification, national student records and preservation of academic outputs among its core services. Graduates are therefore encouraged to check their NCVS/NCN compliance status and confirm whether their institution has completed the required submission and approval of their academic credentials.
