JAMB CAPS admission status explained: what candidates should do
OGB Admission Hub Editorial Desk · Reviewed 28 October 2026. A university or polytechnic may announce that admission processing has started while an individual candidate's JAMB CAPS account still shows no offer. That is not necessarily a contradiction: admissions are processed through official institutional and JAMB steps, and candidates can be considered at different times.
What is JAMB CAPS?
CAPS stands for Central Admissions Processing System. According to JAMB's official explanation, it provides the framework for managing tertiary admission decisions, candidate choices and institutional recommendations. An announcement on social media, a payment receipt or a screenshot sent by an agent cannot replace your official JAMB admission record.
How to check your status securely
- Go directly to JAMB e-Facility. Type or confirm the official domain rather than following a shortened link sent by a stranger.
- Sign in with your own JAMB account credentials. Keep your password and one-time codes private.
- Use the admission-status option and follow the portal's instructions to access CAPS. Select the relevant examination year if the interface asks for it.
- Review the current status, institution and course. Where a real offer is shown, check every detail carefully before taking an accept or reject action.
- Keep monitoring the official portal for updates. If you suspect an account problem or a mismatch, use JAMB's support resources or an authorised service channel.
How to interpret common outcomes
Not admitted
This ordinarily means that your account does not currently display a completed admission offer. It is not enough evidence by itself to conclude that the institution has permanently rejected your application; check whether admission processing is still ongoing and whether your records are complete.
Admission in progress or a recommendation stage
A pending or in-progress status signals that the process has not produced a final visible offer. Do not announce yourself admitted or pay an unofficial agent to "speed up" JAMB. Follow the official process and confirm whether your school has provided a current update.
A transfer proposal
A transfer proposal may relate to a different programme from the one originally selected. Read the exact course and institution before deciding. A transfer proposal is not permission to assume a final admission offer has already been completed. If you are unsure what acceptance entails, consult the institution's official admissions office before acting.
An admission offer
Check the name of the institution and programme shown in CAPS. Where an official offer is available, use the portal's accept or reject process promptly and follow the current instructions. The timeframe can depend on applicable JAMB or institution notices; do not rely on an old post for today's deadline. After a confirmed admission, use the prescribed official process for any required admission letter and registration steps.
Three things to check before panicking
First: O'Level record. Check that your examination results were uploaded and are correctly reflected where JAMB requires them. JAMB's official support FAQ identifies missing or unverified O'Level information as one possible reason for a pending offer.
Second: pending transfer. A proposed programme change may need the candidate's attention. Read the proposal rather than repeatedly checking only the general admission-status screen.
Third: official processing timetable. A school may release results, recommend candidates or upload offers in stages. Check your institution's verified website and notices for the relevant academic session.
Avoid admission fraud and misleading guarantees
No third-party website, social-media group or admission consultant can guarantee a JAMB CAPS offer. Be cautious of requests for your password, OTP, private documents in public chats or payments to personal accounts framed as "guaranteed admission." A paid guidance service can help you understand documents and procedures, but cannot compel JAMB or a school to select you.
