JUPEB Grading and Direct Entry: Official Points Formula and University Requirements

Editorially revised on 28 October 2026. This independently rewritten edition corrects or clarifies the older OGB report. All dates and requirements below refer to the academic session stated; verify new notices before paying fees or applying.
How JUPEB calculates points
According to JUPEB's official frequently asked questions, grades in the three examined subjects carry A=5 points, B=4, C=3, D=2, E=1 and F=0. A candidate who has a passing grade (A through E) in all three subjects receives an additional one point. The maximum under this method is 16 points, made up of 5+5+5+1.
Worked example
Consider a candidate with B, C and D in three subjects. The points are 4+3+2=9. Since all three grades are passes, the candidate earns the additional point, bringing the total to 10. A failed subject may affect eligibility; check the programme's minimum required qualification.
Does a good JUPEB score guarantee admission?
No. Direct Entry admission depends on each university's approved qualifications, course combinations, grade requirements, available places and formal JAMB procedures. A JUPEB result does not automatically mean that every university or course will accept that candidate. Use official programme requirements and JAMB's current Direct Entry instructions.
JUPEB says results are normally tenable for three admission years. Always verify validity and eligibility for the year you intend to apply.
