Lagos Universities Strike: Context from September and October 2026 Reports

Historical context | Reviewed 26 October 2026
Reports published in September and October 2026 described industrial action affecting Lagos State-owned universities. Students should distinguish those dated reports from a current instruction about resumption, examinations or admission services.
What the earlier reports said
The Guardian’s 16 September report described an ASUU joint-campus strike involving LASU, LASUED and LASUSTECH. It linked the dispute to implementation of the renegotiated FG–ASUU agreement and the expiry of an ultimatum.
A separate Guardian report dated 3 October described wider action involving academic and non-academic unions over outstanding obligations. The reports concern different stages and participants in the dispute and should not be collapsed into an undated “strike starts now” claim.
What this review does not establish
These reports do not, by themselves, confirm whether every affected service remains suspended on 26 October. This review does not verify a fresh union statement announcing either continuation or suspension of the action.
Practical checks for students and applicants
Before travelling, check your institution’s latest official announcement and contact the relevant department or admissions office. An interruption to lectures does not automatically tell you the status of every administrative service; equally, a portal remaining online does not guarantee that staff are processing a request.
Keep copies of your application and payment records. Follow an officially revised deadline or resumption notice rather than assuming an earlier timetable still applies. Do not pay someone who promises an unofficial exemption from an institution-wide disruption.
Editorial update: The original “JUST IN” wording has been replaced with dated, attributed historical context. Current operational status requires a newer official confirmation.
